Letter from the Editors

The editors of Women in International Trade Newsletter want to welcome you to the second issue of the 2007-2008 year and the final issue for 2007. This newsletter illustrates the time and hard work put in by WIIT members, all of which make WIIT a success. Please read the articles, a book review, information about WIIT events and much more.

The Fall 2007 edition of the newsletter includes articles submitted by WIIT members about food regulation law and its impact on international trade. Edward Stenier discusses the current product recalls of several imported products, and the proposed government initiatives to address these issues. Bradford L. Ward and Lisa Wang's article discusses the FDA's role in ensuring the safety of food imports in the United States. Their article compares the FDA's food safety programs to that of other major importing countries. Cal Dooley, President and CEO of the Grocery Manufacturers Association, addresses the recently publicized weaknesses in the United States' food safety net, and provides four recommendations on how to increase the safety of the food supply and regain consumer confidence.

Also included, is a book review by Barbara Linney of "Get Ahead by Going Abroad: A Woman's Guide to Fast-track Career Success." According to Ms. Linney, C. Perry Yeatman & Stacie Nevadomiski Berdan's book will undoubtedly be of interest to many of the WIIT members.

Corporate contributors, as well as the individual contributors, assist in making WIIT a success. In order to show our appreciation for our corporate sponsors we have included the names of all WIIT donors in this newsletter. Please take the time to read about some of our corporate donors and look out for more highlights in the next newsletter.

We hope you find this issue informative and engaging. We welcome your comments and suggestions. We wish you and your families a happy holiday season.

Sincerely,
