The editors of Women in
International Trade Newsletter want to welcome
you to the first issue of the 2008-2009 year. This newsletter is an important
part of our efforts to inform you about WIIT's activities. It includes information
about our leadership, recent and upcoming events, information on our many
programs and projects, and articles and book reviews written by WIIT members.
In this issue, we would like to introduce the new 2008-2009 Officers and Board members, as well as identify their past service to and association with WIIT.
Also included, are articles by WIIT members that offer distinctive perspectives on issues related to the intersection of international agriculture and energy policies in a changing global economy. Tonya Kemp offers insight to the causes of rising cost of food and the impact that oil prices, emerging markets and the environment have on the agriculture industry. Susan Scurlock Theiler provides a comprehensive overview and analysis of the implication of increased international investment in agricultural commodities on the U.S. biofuels policy.
Ned Steiner's article focuses on global trade in wood products and the implementation of the Lacey Act and the 2008 Farm Bill. Bob Stallman reviews the Farm Facts, a book about the farming business.
We hope you find this issue informative and engaging. We welcome your comments and suggestions.
Sincerely,
Manka Azefor and Kristin
Wedding
