Committee held its first event of the year, Relationship Building to Enhance
Your Career, with speakers Sheila Savar, author of "The Power of Networking"
and President of Savar & Associates, and Bill Stokes, Chairman of Washington
Network Group. The lively discussion covered the need to have a networking
strategy, how to define it, and how to implement it. Recognizing that few
people would say that they enjoy networking, the speakers provided valuable
advice on identifying events most likely to produce good networking contacts
and how to effectively use your time at these events. How to disengage from
networking encounters and "do's and don'ts" of networking also elicited
great interest, as many in the room had experienced these situations. The
Q&A session also explored the use of various internet networking tools
such as LinkedIn, Facebook and contact management softwares. Tonya Kemp, WIIT
President, reminded WIIT members that WIIT now has LinkedIn and Facebook groups.
