Taking place on the margins of virtual MC2020, this session, jointly sponsored by the Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT); the International Trade Center (ITC) and Women in International Trade (WIIT DC) is an action-focused discussion on how trade policy can foster economic empowerment of women.

This discussion will focus on the launch of ITC’s ground-breaking report on Mainstreaming Gender in Trade Agreements report.  Building on the concrete recommendations included, our panel will discuss ongoing actions and collective next steps to secure gender empowering trade policy that promotes women-driven businesses and embeds that powerful economic community as part of global economy resiliency, and a post-COVID recovery.
Report launch Opening comments by
  • Dorothy Ng’ambi Tembo, Executive Director ad Interim, International Trade Center
Panel discussion with:
  • Julian Braithwaite, Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva
  • Stephen de Boer, Ambassador of Canada to the WTO
  • Roberta Piermartini, Chief of Trade Costs Analysis, World Trade Organization

Moderated by:

This interactive discussion will be first step in broader engagement and programming across the OWIT community to ensure trade progress empowers women.
